If you need more reasons to join, please read this excerpt from the Baltimore Area Scouter, "the BSA has conducted three studies by Lou Harris & Associates on the impact that Scouting has on boys, men, campers, & leaders. And guess what, Scouting makes a tremendous impact on young people even if they are in the program for only a year or two:

It develops strong personal values and character.

It creates a positive sense of self-worth and usefulness.

It provides caring nurturing relationships with parents, other adults and peers.

It gives youth a productive and creative use of their time.

It helps youth develop social adeptness and personal leadership skills.

There is a huge difference in young people who have been in scouts for five years or more when compared to youth who have never been Scouts:

70% of youth who were Scouts five years or more were "Who's Who" leaders vs. 51 % of a national cross-section of adults.

98% of youth who were Scouts five years or more were high school graduates vs. 83% of youth who were not in Scouting.

40% of youth who were Scouts five years or more graduated from college vs. 16% of youth who were not in Scouting.

And just as dramatic is the difference that positive effects of Scouting has on youth based on their tenure in Scouting. The longer the Scouting experience, the greater the expressed and evident positive effects the Scouting program has on Scouts.

Ability to work with others..88% of Scouts five plus-years felt Scouting made a positive difference here vs. 75% of Scouts in less than five years.

Ability to accomplish tasks..85% for Scouts in five-plus years vs. 66% for all other Scouts.

Work life as an adult..75% for Scouts in five-plus years vs. 55% of all other Scouts.

Positive effect on their career..62% for Scouts in five-plus years vs. 43% of all other Scouts.

These research studies confirm the positive impact we all believe Scouting has on our members. And the longer they are in Scouting, the more positive those impacts are as an adult".
